REJECTION AS FUEL
and the sequel to my song "Life Is a Poison"
No one wants to face rejection but we cannot escape it. The most cruel rejections go unnoticed - passive rejection. The slight dismissals, the underestimation, the assumptions, the preconceived notions, the overlooking. Yes, I am senisitive and I notice them.
Life Is a Poison, Pt 2 is inspired by this concept. When you had enough begging to be liked, accepted, and noticed, you finally realize you are better off trying to impress nobody. The song is made from the perspective of someone yearning for transformation. In part one, the prechous was “I’m not gonna stay the same. I think it’s time to change.” Part 2 is after the transformation - stronger, wiser and up to no good. Ha!
I have finally found the fun in my pre-exposure struggle. I want people to play me. Underestimate me. Doubt me. Put me in the box. Come to my pages to check if I have given up on this “little hobby” yet. It’s all going to be my fuel. Rejection has always been my fuel. Sequels to songs have been a traditional most popular during the 2000s, and I wanted to pay homage to that. Here is a playlist I put together of all of my favorite sequel songs - Sequels
I’m grateful for André’s verse. It’s an honor to collab and have his captivating vocals in my song. I loved editing and bringing out the rich tone of his voice. I met André almost ten years ago in our freshman year. At that time I wasn’t much sure of my voice and I had already given up on the dream of music after recently getting rejected in a choir audition. It was so terrible that I knew in the middle of the performance that I was going to face rejection. André did not know about my dreams but now, we have a song together. That shows how far we have come indiviudally in our journey and the conitnuation of our long friendship. Here’s to the first of many colloborations to come.
My music is for the people who just survive and never give up after rejection. They choose joy and strength despite the world we inherited. I hope this song is able to deliver that to the listener.
